NWTC strives to serve all members of our community. The current student population is fairly evenly divided among males and females, although females outnumber males 55.5% to 44.5% with the majority of the students falling in the 18 to 34 age group (57% combined). While this makes sense as many students enter NWTC out of high school, the school also offers many opportunities for older students.
Currently about 5% of the student population is in the 65+ age group. While these people may not be looking to start a career (although some may be looking to start a second career), NWTC offers many opportunities to explore new areas and gain new skills. As there are many programs offered in the college that involve topics of interest such as food, photography, arts, health and more, offering a series of talks with a general introduction or how-to session to the various topics would maybe extent the schools presence into a segment of the community which wouldn’t normally think a technical college would have something to offer them. The Interests metric shows that 38% of users are interested in these types of topics.
To underline this, in the data analytics, one Facebook event showed 58 out of 289 contacts were for artisan events and subjects. By the 4th interaction 12 of the 16 sessions remaining were for artisan events and topics. Also, one snapshot of links shared via social media, the 4th, 5th, 6th and 8th most shared links referred to this topic.
