The majority of visitors to our site arrive through the direct channel by entering the URL for NWTC.edu followed by the organic channel by entering a keyword into a search engine. Referrals from another source is also a common method.
The most used search engine utilized is Google. One data point showed that of 15,518 users arriving via a search engine, 14,743 or 95% were using Google. Bing came in second but with only 628 users or only 4%.
The majority of our users are on desktop computers ( approximately 89%). The remainder is made up of mobile users (approximately 10%) with tablet usage being very minimal (less than 1%). The Apple iPhone is by far the most commonly used mobile device with Samsung Galaxy products averaging only about 1% of users.
Users of the NWTC site have different reasons for doing so. Students and faculty use the site for completing classwork and desktops will facilitate that usage. Since those users know where they are going they are most likely to directly enter the site URL directly. However for those just looking for information, a mobile device may used more often and the site accessed via a search engine. Those site pages offering general information should be able to be easily viewed on mobile screens and should use common keywords so that they will be easily picked up by search engines. The mobile metrics show that while mobile users may only make up around 8% of users, 7.5% of those are new users. Those users view approximately 2.7 pages per session and have a bounce rate of around 45% making this a good audience to capture.
